Cybotics Technologies
About Us
Cybotics Technologies is our design and robotics manufacturing division. Our mission includes the encouragement and support of students towards a wider understanding and appreciation of science, mathematics and engineering through hands on robotics construction workshops.
Kits
Robotics in the Alberta Educational System
Current High School Teachers / Students in Grades 10 to 12 and soon also, Grades 6 to 9, will see an
ongoing Careers option called, “Electro-Technology” and also “Robotics”. It is a response to a GOA
initiative to promote and support Industry in moving forward to become an Innovation Province in
Robotics / Systems Engineering related to Unmanned Robotics Systems.
From interviews with various teachers involved with these programs, I understand they are struggling
with the “how to” and the “what” of teaching these options. Presentations done for various High schools
and at the Teacher CTS conference have shown there is an active market to promote the “learning” for
Teachers to acquire this knowledge.
Some teachers have tried purchase of Lego Mindstorms but found it price prohibitive and students
would have to take turns on each system to conduct labs. One suggestion is students can each acquire
lower cost Robotics kits which support learning for CTS programs in each grade and relate each kit to
the following.
related to the CTS program. Programs can be developed to teach as far as Grades 3 to Grade 6 with
other lower cost kits, for example: “Solar power and how it drives a robot system”.
The seminars can be done with a 5-day, 2-day or one day seminar or any combination for any number of
kits. If teachers do a complete 5 day offering = 30 hours and Study Manual = 15 hours, it would qualify
them for the CTS Teaching credit option. It can be managed as “Five separate one day” meetings at any
local High school or possibly at RDC during summer months for either Teachers or interested students.
Kits available on page over, prices may vary subject to exchange rate and shipping number of kits.

the following.
- Sensors – how they operate electronically, to sense the robot environment.
- Locomotion – wheels, with motors and / or legs for four legged or six legged gait.
- Gears – what ratios, how do they work, what is the electro-mechanical driver?
- Electronics – board layout and basic electronics of each kit (no soldering) involved.
- Solid State devices – overview of electronic devices and how they work, what makes the robot go.
- Physics – the physics behind the sensors in mimicking human attributes.
- Manuals – each kit comes with its own study manual for teachers or students.
- Teacher Manual – a take away Study Manual is available for Teachers.
